Providing a safe space where athletes/performers can share their experiences, process their challenges, celebrate their wins, routinely check-in, debrief, reflect, and grow is also essential to our mission.
We focus on building confidence, resilience, focus, emotional control, and effective decision-making.
Our goal is to not only elevate performance in competition but also to equip our athletes/performers with life skills that foster personal growth, leadership, and success beyond sports.
What is Mental Skills Training?
Oftentimes, when we think about enhancing sport performance, we focus solely on physical training—believing that "training harder yields better results." However, this narrow approach overlooks the powerful influence of mental skills and preparation on overall performance.
Mental skills training integrates the mental and physical aspects of sports by systematically applying evidence-based techniques that enhance performance and well-being.
By strengthening the athlete's/performer’s mindset, mental skills training unlocks qualities that can elevate performance to new heights. This principle lies at the core of our work at FocusFirst.

MEET FOCUsFirst founder,
DR. NARGES MOHSENPOUR
Born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula with an ever evolving passion for sports as both an athlete and a fan, I discovered my calling to pursue an education in the science of sport psychology when I met my first psychology professor at my local community college—a renowned sport psychologist who at the time worked with the U.S. women’s Olympic synchronized swimming team.
After switching majors from political science to psychology, I set a goal to become a psychologist specialized in helping athletes. This led me to earn my Bachelor’s in Psychology at California State University Channel Islands and go on to graduate from John F. Kennedy University’s dual degree program with my Master’s in Sport Psychology and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
I have had the privilege of working with athletes from varying backgrounds and sports, with experience levels ranging from elementary to high-level competition.
I’m motivated by a deep interest in helping athletes tap into their highest performing mindsets and have clarity of mind in and outside of sport.
I believe harmony of the mind, body, and spirit are essential for success and peaceful living.

Centered around your strengths, needs, and goals, we will develop an individualized mental skills training plan to create a clear path for you to reach your next level of performance.

TEACH
We will teach you evidence-based mental skills and performance enhancement techniques that will help you improve your sport performance and fulfill your personal potential. Our sessions are a safe space for you to check-in, debrief, reflect, and grow.

This 30-minute session is reserved for individuals who are ready to level up and find out more about mental skills training. We’ll discuss your unique performance needs and how our work together may benefit you.

These 50-minute sessions are reserved for clients who have already completed their initial intake session.

These 30-minute sessions are reserved for clients who have already completed their initial intake session. This option is the most popular option for clients who are well into the mental skills training process and just need some time to check in, go over how mental skills training is going, and problem solve any barriers that may have come up. Many clients will do this option weekly or every other week.
